PRTG
- Paessler Router Traffic Grapher
Bandwidth
and Network Usage Monitoring Made Easy
What is it?
PRTG (Paessler Router Traffic Grapher) is an easy to use
SNMP Bandwidth/Network Usage Monitor. What
does it do?
PRTG allows you to quickly and easily setup and run
a monitoring station for SNMP enabled networks. With
just a few mouse clicks you can log the amount of data
flowing through routers, monitor CPU utilization or
check disk space usage. More...
How
can I use it?
The most common usage is monitoring the bandwidth usage
of leased lines, routers and firewalls. But you can
also monitor many other aspects of servers, managed
switches, printers and other network components as long
as they are SNMP enabled.
Using
PRTG (Paessler Router Traffic Grapher) you can set up
a usage monitoring station for your routers and servers
in minutes.
"Free
Edition" and "Pro Edition"
Which version do I want?
The Free Edition is completely free for personal and
commercial use. Simply download PRTG and give it a try!
If
you want to monitor more devices and/or ports or if
you want to run PRTG as NT service you must purchase
the Pro Edition.
What PRTG does
Using the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocoll)
PRTG reads the current traffic data from your router
(or any other SNMP enabled device) and shows the result
in three graphs:
- used
bandwidth over the last 24 hours (kbit/sec)
- transferred
data counts for the last 14 days
- transferred
data counts for last 12 months
To achieve a correct counting PRTG needs to be running
all the time to periodically access the latest counts
from the device. The data for the last 365 days is then
stored in the program so that a reset of the device's
counters does not interfere with correct results.
PRTG
works with routers/firewall like Cisco PIX 505, Cisco
7xxx Series, Lightning Multicom Speedsurf, LANCOM Office
Connect but also other devices like Windows 2000 servers
and workstations, network printers or switches.

The Windows GUI is a MDI like application with one window
per monitored interface/port. Graphs and data tables
can be copied to the clipboard or printed out.

PRTG can optionally create a set of HTML pages with
the graphs and the data tables of the measured traffic,
even a CSV download is included.
